Help me decide which photo I should use in my portfolio! I just need this one more and then I’ll send it off to SCAD!
Hey guys! I hope you had a cool Halloween! Mine was decent. I dressed up in my zombie outfit and handed out candy. We didn’t get too many trick-or-treaters because it was raining. I hope next year in Savannah I’ll have a real spooky Halloween!!
But anyway, to the point of this post. Two important things have happened in my life and I have had yet to update my tumblr about it. NUMBER ONE: I switched out of my Algebra 3 class. It was hard and frustrating and it would have hurt my GPA and my chances of getting into SCAD, so I dropped it. It was a good decision and I’m happy about it. I was able to replace it with Fine Arts 2! I had considered taking this course before but there had been no room in my schedule. I’m definitely enjoying school more now that I’m not taking a math. My day is all art classes and one very easy English class. I tell ya, I really lucked out this year.
NUMBER TWO: My family got a dog! I kinda purposely put off telling you this because up until yesterday we had her on foster care. Basically just a trial to see if she was a good match for us. And she is! Her name is Sofie (pronounced Sophie) and she’s about a year old. She’s a shepard mix (we’re not sure of what else.) She’s sweet and loves people. Our cat Maggie isn’t thrilled, but she pretty much lives upstairs now. We’ll start a training session at our local PetSmart with Sofie soon, but she’s already learning to sit!
I love these people. Their photos are astounding. I want my wedding to be photographed by Bobbi+Mike!!!
You know what’s funny? The ads for “Got Milk?” say to drink lowfat milk, while the models/singers/actors/sports stars on the poster have milk mustaches. I myself, like many other kids, have tried to get milk mustaches before. Isn’t it odd that when you try to splash lowfat milk on your upper lip, you get this slightly white watery mixture? That’s because the only way to get a real milk mustache like the kids on the posters is to drink not lowfat milk, but whole. In some ridiculous minds, this could lead to a lawsuit.

So I visited the Savannah College of Art and Design this weekend. It was really awesome! I know I’m going to type a lot so I’ll set this up into sections.
The Location
The city of Savannah is gorgeous. It’s historical so that makes it even more awesome. It’s southern of course, so that means warmth. There are trees and plants everywhere and there aren’t many industrial-looking buildings which adds to the beauty. Since there are lots of plants and the city is right by the river, it does mean that there are a lot of bugs and in fact my legs got quite bitten up one night, but I can deal. It’s also the second most haunted city in the US, after Salem, MA. I’m sure there is some criminal activity but it doesn’t look too dangerous. The taxi driver who took my mom and I to the airport said that there was a rough crowd growing in Savannah when SCAD started to renovate and the renovations inspired other companies to renovate. All the renovation going on eventually drew the seedy people out.
The Facilites
Like I stated above, all the buildings are renovated so that means they were something else before they were college buildings. One of the film buildings was originally a post office and the student center was originally a synagogue (the stained glass is still there!) As for the equipment, SCAD is all about being on the cutting-edge of technology. Once new software or new gadgets come out, they automatically get them. They have tons of labs (they have 20 computer labs in one of the buildings) and a couple of performance areas.
The Dorms
You know how I’ve been saying all the buildings are renovated? Well that includes the dormitories. Most of them were old hotels and motels! We saw one that was an old Day’s Inn. This means that every room has its own bathroom, which is pretty cool if I do say so! At Moore this summer the bathrooms were in the halls so that was a little inconvenient. Plus we had one shower for every four girls. That wasn’t so great either. But back to the SCAD dorms. They’re awesome! Some even have pools and volleyball courts.
Student Life
To get around Savannah, you’re best off having a bike. Parking is limited and expensive and though there is a free shuttle for students to take you to all the buildings, it’s faster to use a bike. Most students have a meal plan and can use it at all the cafes on campus and even some of the restaurants off campus will take your meal plan. Students have a lot of activities at SCAD and one that struck me is called Humans vs. Zombies (or HvZ.) It’s basically an event where all the students run around shooting each other with Nerf guns. Other cool events I heard of were the Masquerade Ball and Octoberfest (Octoberfest is for the whole of Savannah.) I’ve also heard that Savannah has the biggest St. Patrick’s Day Parade. That’s right, not Chicago. Savannah.
Extra Perks
-The winter break is from Thanksgiving to New Year’s. Six weeks of vacation. CAN YOU SAY AWESOME?
-River Street has lots of funky little stores and it’s right by the river but you have to go down this REALLY steep set of stairs to get to it.
-Everyone down there has the Southern drawl.
-The SCAD Film Festival is a week when Savannah goes Hollywood. Tons of big and famous people show up to see student films play in Trustees Theatre 24/7.
-They have these things called Sleep Pods. It’s basically a bed-machine thing that allows you to take power naps.
